Pilates DVDs
Watching Pilates DVDs can be an alternative to signing up for a regular class. Pilates DVDs are more convenient for people who are not able to fit a class into their busy schedules. Instead, they can practice with the instructional videos from the comfort of their own home.
But while there are advantages to this method, there are also disadvantages. Here are some of the pros and cons of going by instructional videos instead of a class.
Advantages
-The primary advantage of Pilates DVDs applies to those who don’t have much time. If you have a very difficult and inconsistent schedule, joining a Pilates class may be impossible. The demands of work might mean that you will miss a few sessions, and in a group class, this can be frustrating. By the time you get to participate in another session, your classmates will have advanced a level or two and you will be struggling to catch up.
-You can go at your own pace. People progress in different degrees because some people are more physically fit than others, or are more flexible to begin with. If you attend a class, you might find yourself ahead or behind your classmates. If you go along with Pilates DVDs, you can follow the instructions at your own pace instead.
-You can practice more regularly if desired. Pilates classes adhere to a schedule- say, twice a week. Not everybody is comfortable with such a schedule. If you have your own DVDs, you can practice as much as you want. You can be as diligent as you want, or if your stamina is not yet up to it, you can do it on a less regular basis.
-You will become more self-reliant when it comes to your workout. Some people who are used to going with a class usually abandon their routines in the absence of an instructor. If you are used to following a DVD, you will learn to muster the self-discipline to master the routines without someone else’s prodding.
Disadvantages
-When you follow Pilates DVDs, it is hard to tell if you are doing the right thing. You might think you have copied the movement shown in the video very precisely when it is not, in fact, the case. No instructor will be around to correct your mistakes.
-You may be inclined to cheat. Some people who follow DVDs only go for the movements that feel comfortable, and ignore others. You can quit whenever you feel tired, and this might mean that you won’t get a thorough workout.
-You may neglect the important principles. Not all DVDs put enough emphasis on the principles of Pilates. Without the awareness of these principles, you might make errors that will put strain on and cause bodily pain.
There are a fair amount of both pros and cons to buying Pilates DVDS. If you have decided that this is the right solution for you, just make sure of the quality of the DVD you are purchasing. Make sure you get your money’s worth with a DVD that provides a complete Pilates workout and helps you reach your fitness goals.
